One of the most frustrating things that I have found out while doing advocacy is who can be a guardian of someone with a developmental disability in Michigan – the answer is a two year old, a sex offender, someone with no formal training, someone who is abusive and sadly I’m not making this up at all. A lot of parents of disabled children tend to shelter there children and at times lie to them about there ability and there heath. I find this to be frustrating and wrong, I don’t see the point in giving them building anxiety and worries that someday may need to be taking care of by meds or even therapy.
