Will A Government Shutdown Affect Food Stamps and Social Security Disability

Government-ShutdownWith a possible Government shutdown looming right now many are worried will they get their food stamps?  Will people get their social secuirty payments?  Will people get their disability payments?Yesterday the House voted to on this years budget and approved it, however President Obama has stated he will veto the budget because an ammendment was attached that the Affordable Healthcare Act, also known as Obamacare must be delayed a year.

In order to avoid a federal government shutdown a budget must be approved by midnight on the morning of October 1st.

If There Is A Government Shutdown Will I Get Foodstamps?

If the United States Government does shutdown the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) more commonly refered to as Food Stamps will not be affected as its considered an essential service.  During a government shutdown food stamp benefits will still be disbursed as normal.

Will A Government Shutdown Stop Social Security Payments?

If A Government shutdown occurs social security retirement (RSDI), disabled adult child (DAC), disability and supplemental security income (SSI) payments will continue as normal as they are considered  an essential service.  You will still see your October 2013 payments.

Medicaid and Medicare programs will also likely not be affected by a government shutdown were it to happen.  However other services that many with disabilities use will likely be affected as well as the determination process to get the services.
